Untitled for double bass and computer is an open form composition in which a solo instrumentalist freely explores a computer generated, interactive sound environment. The computer listens for specific notes, which act as switches, turning elements of the composition on and off. Groups of switches trigger subsequent layer of switches. This layering renders certain parts of the composition more difficult to activate than other parts, imparting an inherent, yet flexible, sequence and structure to an otherwise open form.
Performed by Jonathan Zorn.
Doublebass Feedback Matrix
A matrix of resonant filters are fed back into one another, creating tone clusters. The doublebass is then fed into the matrix, causing interference within the feedback. As the bass approaches the cutoff frequency of the filters, the filters retune, creating a shifting field of frequencies.
